How to Buy Budgie Cages

Buying your budgie an appropriate cage is one of the most important aspects of caring for it. There are a few things you need to consider when choosing one. Here are a few tips for buying budgie cages.

Size

The most important consideration when buying a cage for your budgie is size. It needs to provide adequate room for toys, dishes, and exercise. Also, since these birds fly horizontally, width is more important than height. The minimum size you should look for is 18 inches wide by 18 inches long x 20 inches tall.

Material

The type of material the cage is made from is also important. Powder-coated vinyl or stainless steel designs are best. Whatever you do, don't buy a cage that is made from a toxic metal. Zinc and lead are the most harmful. Brass cages are also unsuitable because it produces toxic tarnish when wet.

Shape

You also need to think about shape when selecting budgie cages. Rectangular cages are the best option. Other shapes will reduce the amount of space your bird has to fly around. You should never buy your budgie a round cage because they won't feel safe in it. They will only feel safe is the cage has a wall they can retreat to when stressed.

Bars

It's also vital that to pay attention to the bars of your prospective cage. The bars should be spaced no more than 1/2-inch apart for budgies. If the bars are spaced too far apart, your small bird may get out. Sometimes, they may get stuck between the bars while trying to get out. There should also be horizontal bars on the cage so your bird can climb on them.

These are a few tips for buying budgie cages. To ensure the ideal health of your bird, it's important that you learn everything you can about proper budgie care. So, click here now to learn how to care for pet budgies properly.

help My budgie is scaring me...?
My budgies cage is placed in the kitchen and sometimes my mom will leave the stoves eye on to keep our home warmer. I have noticed that when she does this my budgie begins to shake and gasp for air and i will take her to a cooler area away from the room. Then a week or two later i bought her a new cage and the next day she bleeds all over it i don't know what's wrong with her and what can be the problem with my poor bird but she's scaring me because she's also sleeping with one leg up instead of two and she acts like she can't keep her balance on her bar in her cage sometimes. i'm taking her to a vet today but i am still so worried

My budgies like nibbling bits of wool?
Hi, the other day I put a strand of wool near my budgies cage door, so I could open it halfway to put my hand in and recently they have started to nibble it! Not eat, but just biting it. Is this OK or bad? they dont seem to swallow any, is it just like a toy for them? They are usually so nervous they wont even touch anything new I put in there cage. Oh, by the way there is no danger of it strangling them its just one long striip of plaited wool that is only tied at one end. Oh and its not because there hungry either I feed them plenty ;)

Should i keep the nest box in the cage even though the male parakeet isnt mature (parakeet question)?
i kept a nest box in my budgies cage (well outside) and i just put it in this morning (like actually inside) but i just realized the males cere isnt dark blue, its purple so hes not mature but the female just now decides to show interest in it. she sat in it for 5 minutes and now shes eating but shes probably going to go back. i left the material out of the cage (forgot to put it in) so im not really sure what to do. shes very amused with it but the male dosnt show any interest and the female is mature (brown crusty cere) that was adorable. little patter of tiny claws :3 that was just adorable
